Solid Roof Conservatories: Creating a healthier and happier home
With Winter well and truly upon us, it’s so important to focus on light to keep our homes nice and warm, comfortable and bright.
At Leka Roofs, we are always on the look out for useful information that we can share with you about solid roof conservatories & your home, and we recently went to a seminar hosted by Velux at UK Construction Week about daylight in the home.
They discussed how daylight, ventilation and warmth are key to keeping homes healthier and happier and gave lots of intriguing facts and figures about how the condition of a home can impact the health of its inhabitants. For example, did you know that we are 1.6 times more likely to report health problems when living in badly lit and damp homes*?

What makes a home healthy?
It seems so clear, but lighter, brighter and warmer homes with good sleeping conditions and lots of fresh air create the perfect space to live in.
Each of these factors are easily achieved with solid roof conservatories, but why are they so important for a healthier home?
The ideal temperature
Creating a living space that is comfortable all year round is so important, especially in conservatories which are renowned for being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
A comfortable indoor temperature can keep your productivity high and help you continue day to day activities without getting too cold or too hot. Correct ventilation and insulation within your living spaces is crucial to maintaining the optimum living temperature.
Choosing a solid roof for your conservatory ensures that the temperature inside your living space is regulated. The Leka solid roof system is highly energy efficient, with a very low U-Value of 0.15. The lower the U-Value, the better the insulation.
Lots of light
During the seminar with Velux, we learnt that we are more likely to become tired and lethargic when there is a lack of daylight around in our living spaces.
We also discovered the importance of daylight for health. Unlike artificial light, daylight encourages growth, strengthens the immune system, regulates moods, improves digestion, lowers blood pressure and encourages alertness.
Creating a bright, airy space is easy with a solid conservatory roof and replacing your old glazed roof with a solid roof doesn’t mean that you need to lose light. Including a Velux roof light in your solid roof design can fill your conservatory with lots of natural light and offer extra ventilation when it’s needed.
Fresh air thinking
We all know how important it is to get enough fresh air. Indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air, which can lead to mould, disrupted sleep, lack of energy and even illness.
Letting fresh air flow through your home and keeping living spaces well ventilated can greatly improve the health and happiness within your home.
